    >THE IMPORTANCE OF SAFETY REGULATIONS & BUDGET CONSTRAINTS:Due to the following recent tragedies in the South African construction industry:(1)The collapse of the Tongaat Mall Development in Kwazulu-Natal Province in 2013. (2)The collapse of the extension of the house in Meyersdal, Alberton, Gauteng province in August 2014.(3)The Jacob Zuma Nkandla Saga whereby SACAP is investigating the Nkandla project as highlighted in the report of the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) of its investigation into the Nkandla matter.
GDP cannot emphasize anymore deeply that all the above circumstances could have been avoided if a competent and professionally registered person was appointed to oversee these projects. According to SACAPs record the Nkandla architect last updated his registration on the 2014/03/26 probably as the Nkandla saga went viral. It is important that before you undertake a building of any nature that you appoint a professionally registered person to oversee the project. The professional should be trained to project manage, insure building is built to safety regulations, to insure that the client is aware of the professionals that need to be appointed and to insure that the project is built to the budget constraints of the client. For instance, to check if an architect is registered and to check the category of their registration log onto: www.sacapsa.com and insure that the person you have appointed is registered and recognized by the council of South Africa.
    Yours sincerely,
    GDP1 admin.

How does an Architect treat his private spaces in his own home? By using his own artwork to create meaningful spaces.

Let artwork transform an ordinary space into a meaningful space. Architect Carl Adams uses his own works of art in his home to create a meaningful space from what otherwise would be considered an ordinary space. Transform your ordinary garage to something more.

For that "impact" interior artwork can serve as a facilitator for that meaningful space.

The world is changing. There is a need for professionals to realize the responsibility they have on shaping the built environment. Advances in technologies like Tesla’s integrated roof solution as well as Tesla’s battery store system are examples of the technologies out there that need to be applied to not just new buildings but every building.

In this light humans will be completely independent and “off the grid” from fossil fuel technologies. With these technologies it will enable sustainable transport as well as electric vehicles to be able to “plug into the building” and plug into sustainable energy resources. These electric charger or super charger points will be available at all designated parking areas of the building.

COVID 19: Yes the coronavirus epidemic has affected the global economy but what are the solutions to this problem.

One we need to rethink healthcare for starters and the availability of healthcare to ordinary citizens.

We need to re-imagine the building space to accomodate flexible spaces in cases whereby lockdown procedures are to take place.

Air treatment of spaces needs to be revisited to ensure the safety of all within the building space.

These are only a few suggestions but the brainstorming on how we design the buildings of the future can be taken from the lessons learned from this pandemic to ensure a safer tomorrow for all.

The Birth of the Prompt Engineer – When Architecture, AI and Imagination Converge

In 2009, I completed my architectural thesis titled The Marabastad Traders Centre for Arts, a project that imagined a vibrant cultural market alive with artists, sculptors and entrepreneurs. In 2025, I revisited this same building but this time, not with a pencil or ArchiCAD but with Artificial Intelligence.

Today, the discipline of architecture is transforming. Cities are designed using digital twins. Clients expect real-time simulations. Project managers are required to understand data as much as design. And now, with AI, one sentence, a prompt, can generate an entire architectural concept in seconds.

This is not the death of creativity. It is the birth of a new professional: the Prompt Engineer.

What is a Prompt Engineer in Architecture?

A Prompt Engineer is not a coder. They are:

    Architecturally trained thinkers

Project managers who understand efficiency and story

Curators of style, emotion, materiality, culture

People who can translate imagination into AI prompts

They don’t draw faster they think faster.

My Experiment: Gaudí Meets Africa in Marabastad

Inspired by my recent visit to Zaha Hadid Architects in London and to Gaudí’s Casa Batlló in Barcelona, I conducted an experiment:

    (1) I used my original thesis renders (2009).

    (2) I asked AI to keep the form exactly the same, but decorate it as if Antoni Gaudí had collaborated with African artisans.

    (3) Ceramics, sculpted balconies, mosaic skin, wooden carvings.

    (4) Not plagiarism. Interpretation. Storytelling. Fusion.

The result? My architecture was reborn, not redesigned.

Why This Matters to Architects, Clients and Project Managers:

AI can generate 100 façade options in one afternoon.

Clients will no longer wait weeks to “see an idea.”

Project managers will become curators of decision-making, not administrators.

The architect of the future must master both design language and prompt language.

    Final Thought:

    AI will not replace architects.

But architects who can write powerful prompts will replace those who cannot.

This is the birth of a new discipline: The Prompt Engineer.
